Soft golden bun holds tender beef, gooey gouda, and sweet-smoky bacon jam topped with crunchy bacon.

# Ingredients:

→ Jam Mixture Items

01 - 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
02 - 1 cup chopped yellow onion
03 - 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
04 - 1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
05 - 1/2 pound bacon, chopped into small chunks
06 - 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

→ Burger Essentials

07 - 4 burger buns
08 - 1 pound lean ground beef
09 - 4 slices of gouda or classic American cheese
10 - 1/2 pound bacon, whole pieces

# Steps:

01 - Slice up the bacon into small chunks (about 1 inch each). Set the rest of the bacon aside for later. Cook the bacon bits and chopped onions in a pan over medium heat until the bacon is crispy, and onions are tender. Discard all but 2 tablespoons of the grease from the pan. Stir in garlic and let it cook for just a minute. Add in the brown sugar, vinegar, and salt, cooking the mix until it thickens to a jam consistency. Cool it off in a jar and set it aside.
02 - Lay the leftover bacon slices flat on a foil-covered baking sheet. Start with a cold oven, turn it to 400°F, and let the bacon crispen up as the oven heats. After it cooks, move it to a plate lined with paper towels to drain. Shape the beef into 4 burger patties, then sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cook the patties however you prefer (on a grill, in a pan, or in the oven) until they've reached the doneness you like. Right before they're done, put a cheese slice over each patty to melt.
03 - Start building your burger by placing a patty with melted cheese on the bottom bun. Add a scoop of the sweet bacon jam, a couple of crispy bacon pieces, and finish it off with the top bun. Serve and dig in while it's still warm!

# Notes and Tips:

01 - The jam makes more than you’ll need—store leftovers in the fridge for later.
02 - Nutrition info is based on using half of the bacon jam for assembly.
