Preheat oven to 350 ℉.

Grease a 9x13 baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Spoon apple pie filling into the baking dish, and spread evenly over the bottom of the dish with a spatula. Sprinkle ground cinnamon over the pie filling, if using.

Pour the bag of caramel bits on top of the apples.

Sprinkle dry cake mix over the pie filling, spreading it completely to cover the apple filling.

Place pats of butter in neat rows over the cake mix, and bake uncovered for 45 to 50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbly.
