# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
02 - 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese, split into two portions
03 - 1 package (26 ounces) shredded hash browns
04 - 10.5 ounces cream of mushroom soup
05 - 1/2 teaspoon pepper
06 - 1 teaspoon salt, optional
07 - 1 cup sour cream

# Steps:

01 - Place hash browns in a big mixing bowl to start.
02 - Add sour cream, mushroom soup, salt, and pepper. Stir until it's all mixed up.
03 - Toss 2 cups of shredded cheddar in the bowl and stir until it's blended well.
04 - Spread your mix evenly into a greased 9x13 pan.
05 - Pop it into a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 35 minutes.
06 - Layer the sausage slices and remaining cheddar cheese on top of the casserole.
07 - Bake for another 15-20 minutes until it's hot all through and the cheese is ooey-gooey.

# Notes and Tips:

01 - Frozen hash browns need to be thawed so they cook nice and evenly. Break apart any chunks using a knife if needed.
02 - Use a roomy bowl to mix everything together. It makes stirring easier, especially since there’s a lot of stuff.
03 - If you don't need as much, just make half and use a smaller pan or keep the same pan with less cooking time.
04 - If you’ve got extra cubed cheese, throw it in instead of shredded—it does the job just as well.
05 - The thickness of the sausage slices is up to you. Go thick or thin, whatever works!
06 - This dish freezes great for later, and it heats up fast, making it a solid option for weekday lunches.
