French Onion Chicken Gravy (Print Version)

Juicy chicken with caramelized onion gravy and melty cheese for a comforting, flavor-packed main course.

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 large yellow onion, sliced
02 - 2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts, sliced thinly
03 - 2 tablespoons olive oil
04 - 3 tablespoons butter
05 - 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
06 - 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
07 - 2 cups beef broth
08 - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
09 - 1 packet beefy onion soup mix
10 - 2 teaspoons seasoned salt
11 - 1 teaspoon onion powder
12 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
13 - Black pepper to taste

# Steps:

01 - Slice each chicken breast into thin cutlets, drizzle lightly with olive oil and rub it into both sides. Combine the seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper in a small bowl, and generously season the chicken on both sides.
02 - Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken cutlets for 4–5 minutes per side, or until golden and cooked through to 165°F. Remove from skillet and set aside.
03 - Lower the heat to medium-low and add 2 teaspoons of olive oil and the butter to the same skillet. Once melted, add the onions and stir to coat. Cook for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown.
04 - Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to combine. Cook for 2–3 minutes to remove the raw flour taste. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and beefy onion soup mix. Let simmer until thickened.

# Notes and Tips:

01 - Swap mozzarella for provolone or Gruyère for a more classic French onion flavor.
02 - Thinly slice chicken breasts to ensure even cooking and tenderness.
03 - Sauté onions for a quicker preparation, though the flavor will differ.
04 - Serve with mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the gravy.
