Preheat oven to 350°F. Line cupcake tin with paper liners.

Whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.

In separate bowl, mix egg, buttermilk, oil, vanilla, and red food coloring until smooth.

Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet until just combined. Fill liners 2/3 full. Bake 18-20 minutes.

Beat butter until smooth, gradually add powdered sugar, then cream and vanilla. Add pink coloring if desired.
