Preheat the oven according to the cake mix package directions and line the cupcake tin with liners.

Prepare the cake mix according to the package directions and equally divide the batter into three separate bowls.

Using the gel food coloring, dye one bowl red and one bowl blue, leaving the third bowl white.

Spoon approximately 1 tablespoon of the blue batter into each cupcake liner, followed by white batter, then red batter.

Bake the cupcakes as directed on the cake mix package, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow cupcakes to cool completely.

Spoon the frosting into a piping bag or spread it on with a spatula. Decorate using red and blue sprinkles.
