Spread the softened butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.

Lay one slice of bread in a cool pan with the buttered side down, stack the cheese on top, and finish with the other slice (butter facing up).

Set the heat to low-medium and cook slowly to make sure the cheese melts smoothly while the bread stays unburnt.

Let the bottom bread toast for about 3-4 minutes or until it's a nice golden-brown color. Then carefully turn it over.

Cook the top side for another couple of minutes (2-3) until golden, and the cheese is completely gooey.

Before slicing, let it rest briefly so the cheese has time to settle in and won't spill everywhere.
