Homemade Apple Bars Flaky (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Crust

01 - 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 1 cup softened shortening
03 - 1 teaspoon salt
04 - 1 egg yolk
05 - 1/2 cup milk

→ Filling

06 - 7 sliced apples
07 - 1 1/4 cups white sugar
08 - 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
09 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
10 - 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
11 - 2 teaspoons tapioca

→ Topping

12 - 1 egg white
13 - white sugar (for sprinkling)

# Steps:

01 - Blend flour, shortening, and salt together in a bowl. Set aside.
02 - In a separate bowl, mix egg yolk and milk thoroughly.
03 - Add the egg yolk and milk mixture to the flour mixture. Mix until a uniform dough forms.
04 - Divide the dough in half. Roll out one half on a floured surface to fit an 11"x17" greased cookie sheet. Set aside.
05 - In a bowl, mix sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and all-purpose flour until combined. Pour the mixture over the prepared bottom crust.
06 - Evenly sprinkle tapioca over the apple filling.
07 - Roll out the remaining dough to match the size of the cookie sheet. Place it over the apple filling.
08 - Whip the egg white and brush it over the top crust. Sprinkle white sugar evenly over the top.
09 - Preheat the oven to 350ºF (175ºC). Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
